In Peoria, five attorneys joined the firm, Syed E. Ahmad and Tony Ashenhurst joined as Of Counsel and Anne L. Mergen, Jessica R. Sarff, and Seth A. TeBeest joined as Associates.
Mr. Ahmad practices in the areas of casualty/tort litigation, commercial litigation, and business transactions.
He is a former Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Peoria. He also previously served as an Assistant State’s Attorney in the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s office (2011-2013). Mr. Ahmad received his J.D. from Michigan State University.
Mr. Ashenhurst joined the firm’s Healthcare Practice after serving as an Assistant General Counsel in UnityPoint Health’s Law Department, where he provided healthcare-related and other corporate legal services and counseling to UnityPoint’s Illinois affiliates. Mr. Ashenhurst received his J.D. from Drake University Law School.
Ms. Mergen focuses her practice on casualty and tort litigation, environmental law and governmental law. Prior to joining Heyl Royster, she was an attorney in the General Counsel’s office of the Illinois Department of Natural Resourc
es (IDNR) in Springfield (2014-17). She received her J.D., cum laude, from Southern Illinois University.
Ms. Sarff concentrates her practice in the area of appellate advocacy, casualty/tort litigation, and commercial litigation. She served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Daniel L. Schmidt of the Illinois Appellate Court, Third District. Ms. Sarff received her B.S. in Criminal Justice from Illinois State University in 2011 and her J.D. from Southern Illinois University School of Law, summa cum laude, in 2014. While in law school, she was the lead articles editor for the Southern Illinois University Law Journal.
Mr. TeBeest concentrates his practice on technology licensing, intellectual property commercialization, corporate transactions and tort litigation. Prior to joining Heyl Royster,
he was an adjunct professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) and the Chicago-Kent College of Law.
Mr. TeBeest received his J.D. from Valparaiso University Law School and earned an M.S. in Intellectual Property Management and Markets from IIT.
