After an intense training and certification period, ELITE High School, Jr. ELITE & Re-Entry students are scheduled to graduate from the Peoria Park District's ELITE Community Outreach Program on Thursday, May 9th at 6:00 pm at the Riverside Community Church, 207 N.E. Monroe.
The ELITE Program began in 2006 as a way to keep youth off the streets by providing them with the skills they need to secure a part-time job. Working through high school counselors, the program targets sophomores and juniors who would most benefit from the self-confidence and the financial boost that part-time employment can bring.
Professionals from the local business community mentored the high school & Re-Entry students in career-building skills such as effective communication, job preparation, positive work ethics and more.
The 2019  ELITE Job Fair was held on May 2, 2019 at the RiverPlex. Over a dozen employers, including several Peoria Park District departments, participated in the ELITE Job Fair.
"It's a win-win situation,"  according to ELITE Founder, Carl Cannon.  "Employers are getting applicants who are willing and ready to work, and participants are getting a head start on their peers in getting summer employment.  When they go through our program they gain the tools to succeed. They can become positive, productive members of society whose experience can help others make better choices."
The keynote speaker for the 2019 graduation is Dr. Sheila Quirk-Bailey, President of Illinois Central College.
Honorees include Timothy Cassidy, recently retired Peoria Park Board President, Dr. Amir Al-Khafaji of Bradley University, and several other individuals who are champions for the ELITE Youth Outreach Program.   The public is welcome to attend this celebration of our young and older ELITE graduates.
