Andrea Parker to be Keynote Speaker at Methodist College Commencement
Methodist College will honor its Spring 2019 semester graduates at a commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 18 at 10:00 a.m. at Bethany Baptist Church, 7422 North Heinz Lane, Edwards, Illinois. The Spring 2019 class includes 71 Bachelor of Science in Nursing graduates, four Bachelor of Science in Health Science graduates, and four Medical Assistant Certificate graduates.
The keynote speaker will be Andrea Parker, RN, BSN, MS, Executive Director of the Hult Center for Healthy Living. A Manual High School graduate, Parker earned a diploma in nursing from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, now Methodist College; a bachelor of science in nursing from Bradley University; and a master’s degree from the University of Illinois College of Nursing at Chicago. She has served in numerous leadership roles at Methodist Medical Center. She was named the Public Health Administrator for the Peoria City/County Health Department and later the Regional Health Officer with the Illinois Department of Public Health. Parker now serves as the Executive Director of the Hult Health Center for Healthy Living where she oversees the UnityPoint Health In-School Health Program, serving Peoria Public Schools and surrounding school districts. She also serves as adjunct nursing faculty at Methodist College. Parker has received awards recognizing her professional achievements and has served on a variety of boards and committees for local non-profit organizations.
Methodist College, an affiliate of UnityPoint Health, can trace its history to 1900 when the deaconesses of the Methodist Episcopal Church opened the Deaconess Home and Hospital and its School of Nursing. In March 2000, Methodist College was established and has grown to an enrollment of almost 700 students with bachelor degree programs in nursing, social work and health science; certificates in nursing assistant, medical assistant, and gerontology; and four programs within the master’s degree in nursing.
