  • Baby Giraffe Name Reveal Press Conference

    WHO:  Central Illinois Media 
    WHAT: The Peoria Zoo welcomed a baby giraffe on Sunday, January 7, 2018.  As a way to engage the community in the process to name the baby giraffe, the Peoria Park District opened up voting on 6 different names to the public.  Each vote cost $1 with portions of the proceeds going to benefit the giraffes at the Peoria Zoo and the Giraffe Conservation Fund.  Each $1 vote also entered participants for a chance to win a "meet and greet" with the baby giraffe and her mother, Vivian.  Voting closes at midnight on February 26, 2018.  The winning giraffe name, along with the winner of the meet and greet, will be announced a press conference on March 1st.  
    WHERE: Zambezi Lodge at Peoria Zoo, 2320 N. Prospect Rd., Peoria, IL
    WHEN:  Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 10:30 am.  
    OTHER:  Members of the media are encouraged to enter the Zambezi Lodge through Gate 8 at the Zoo, which is located near the old entrance to the zoo.  Zoo staff will be located at the gate starting at 10:00 a.m. to provide access to the lodge. The giraffe birth video, fact sheets, and stills of the giraffe are available for media use by clicking here.
