On Sunday, October 29, from 12-5pm, the Peoria PlayHouse Children’s Museum is highlighting Peoria’s Hindu community with Diwali, a joyous Hindu holiday that celebrates the triumph of good over evil. Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights that welcomes prosperity and a fresh new year.
Activities will include traditional Indian dance performance, making diyas (special lamps), watching a rangoli (sand floor art) demonstration, and more. Celebrate Peoria: Diwali and its activities will be presented in collaboration with the Hindu Temple of Central Illinois.
This event is free with museum admission ($8/person), or with your PlayHouse membership card. It is part of the PlayHouse’s ongoing “Celebrate Peoria” series, which is designed for families and children to discover the diversity of Peoria and Central Illinois. At each event, the PlayHouse examines one of the many cultures that make up the dynamic fabric of our community.
The mission of the Peoria PlayHouse is to provide children with the tools and inspiration they need to be explorers and creators of the world. For information on all Peoria PlayHouse programs, check out our website at www.peoriaplayhouse.org or call 309-323-6900.
