  • CityLink Implementing Signed Bus Stop System for Designated Routes on Feb. 3

    • Share:
    February 08, 2019
Effective February 3, 2019, CityLink buses will pick-up and drop-off passengers only at signed bus stop locations, designated CityLink benches and shelters for the routes located in Peoria, Peoria Heights and West Peoria. This change has been in progress since the latter part of 2018, and it is an effort to improve passenger safety.  All bus stops are spaced approximately 1320 feet apart, and they are marked with either a CityLink bus stop sign, bench or shelter.

Bus operators will no longer stop at every corner, or anywhere that a passenger flags them down.  This will reduce the number of times that the buses have to merge with traffic while leaving a bus stop and allow more time for passengers to get on and off the bus.  The operators will also have more time to make sure that passengers are safely clear of the bus before pulling away from the curb.

The Signed Stop System is designed to enhance passenger safety and the overall customer satisfaction of the service CityLink provides.  Bus operators are currently instructing passengers about the new Signed Stop System procedures before it goes into effect on February 3.

Implementation of the Signed Stop System is planned for a later date for the routes located in East Peoria, Pekin and the commuter route between Peoria and Pekin.

CityLink Customer Service has a full list of the bus stops affected by this change and can be reached at 309-676-4040 during designated business hours.  A list of CityLink bus stops for these routes is also available at www.ridecitylink.org/schedules-routes.  This list is subject to change as routes and stops are continuously monitored and/or adjusted to improve bus service and accommodate road construction projects.
