Mayor Jim Ardis and Author Rita Ali to Speak Before Unveiling of Little Free Library

The Book Rack will be hosting a “Fall into Reading” Festival at the Carver Center in John H.
Gwynn Jr. park on October 28, 2017 from noon to 3 p.m.

This free event will include activities such as a costume contest, face painting, bouncy houses,
bobbing for apples, bookmark decorating and free books for children until 2 p.m.

With help from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Peoria, The Book Rack is adding a Little
Free Library on the Carver Center Property to make reading more accessible to children who live
in the surrounding neighborhoods. This Little Free Library will act as a way for children to
continuously read and exchange books provided to them by The Book Rack.

Starting around 2 p.m., keynote speakers Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis and author Rita Ali will give
their speeches, immediately followed by a ribbon cutting of the new Little Free Library.

“This is something I had thought about last year and would love to continue doing for many
more years. I want every child to have access to reading,” says Stacy Hardin, owner of The Book
Rack.

The Book Rack: Used Books and Curiosities is a for-profit used book store that has been in
business in Peoria for nearly 40 years. A customer may walk into the store and find over 60,000
books, but not one over the price of $5. Most of the books in the store cost less than half of the
cover price.
