This Friday, February 16 from 9:00-1:30, Franklin Primary (807 W. Columbia Terrace, Peoria, IL 61606) staff and students will welcome approximately 30 educators from Springfield, East Peoria, Harvard and Effingham at its Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Showcase.
This is Franklin’s 5th AVID Showcase, which allows educators from other districts to see what AVID is all about and see it in action in a recognized school. Franklin is one of only two schools in Illinois to be featured as a showcase school this year. A school in Elgin is also a showcase school.
Franklin Primary School is proud to have student involvement in presenting at the showcase. The student leaders involved are from Franklin Primary School, Calvin Coolidge Middle School, and Peoria High School.
The showcase event takes place in the school library and begins at 9:00 a.m. with an introduction by PPS Superintendent Dr. Sharon-Desmoulin-Kherat and the Peoria High School AVID team. AVID organization representatives will present an elementary overview for the program and PPS students and staff will make their presentation of PPS’ AVID programs between 9:20 and 10:15 a.m. Visitors will also participate in classroom observations and following lunch, at approximately 12:40 p.m., Franklin staff and student leaders from the three schools will host a panel discussion with guests for the last 45 minutes of the day.
