The City of Peoria Community Development Department would like to invite citizens to participate in one last organized 2017 litter clean up, Thursday, December 21st at 2:00 PM. Multiple members of the City of Peoria Community Development staff will take advantage of the warmer than average weather (and the lack of snow accumulation) and will be picking up litter on North Street from Richmond to McClure. Additional streets will include Nebraska, Bigelow and Linn. Staff will meet at the corner of
Knoxville and Nebraska with supplies.
The Community Development Department is committed to reducing the amount of litter and
debris dumped in the City of Peoria. The Department has hosted multiple clean up events
throughout the year in all areas of Peoria. Over the last two weeks alone, Code Enforcement has
worked to remove over 300 cubic yards of dumped debris from the alleys of our neighborhoods
by utilizing remaining dumpsters allocated annually from our waste removal contract.
Illegal dumping in Peoria is a major issue that causes blight in neighborhoods and reduces
property values. Witnesses of illegal dumping are encouraged to call the Peoria Police
Department immediately at 309.673-4521. (Tires, Televisions, Debris, Yard Waste, etc.) Any
description of the persons or vehicles involved with the dumping will help ensure the City of
Peoria can prosecute those who continue to disrespect our neighborhoods. A list of locations that
residents can properly dispose of televisions, tires, yard waste and debris can be found by
visiting our website at AppreciatePeoria.com. Attached to this press release is information on
how to report code violations through the Peoria Cares Software Application.
