Peoria Public Schools life skills students have participated in Special Olympics and the district’s Courageous Pacers program for many years. This year, they added a basketball program to their athletic agenda, and the excitement is contagious!
Jamieson School staff Mr. Shaquille Scott and Mr. Cobretti Smith began building what has grown to be a popular basketball program for high school life skills students this school year. Peoria High School and Richwoods High School also have basketball teams for life skills students.
Manual Academy Rams and Jamieson School Eagles life skills student basketball teams will face off Friday, February 2, 9:30 a.m. at Manual Academy.
According to Manual Academy teacher Kim Grimes, “The kids at Manual are having an amazing time learning how to play basketball together as a team. Coach David Williams works with the kids several days a week to help build their skills and their self-confidence.”
Both Jamieson School and Manual Academy teams held their final practice Thursday morning before the big game on Friday. Manual’s JV and Varsity cheerleaders will make a special appearance to assist cheering on both teams.
