OSF Saint Francis Recognized for Outstanding Women’s Health Programs
Becker’s Hospital Review has recognized OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center on its annual list of “100 Hospitals & Health Systems with Great Women’s Health Programs.” The hospitals included on the list support award-winning programs in women’s health, breast cancer diagnosis and treatment, gynecology and women’s heart care. The list also recognizes hospitals with forward-thinking labor and delivery departments and recognition for maternity care.
Jennifer Hopwood, vice president of patient care and chief nursing officer, said, "OSF Saint Francis recognizes women as the change leaders in health care and the overall wellness of our community. We are excited to be recognized for our efforts and will continue to improve the way we provide health care services and education to women so they can better care for themselves and those closest to them."
Hopwood feels there are several reasons why OSF Saint Francis made the list. In March, the medical center completed a massive reconfiguration allowing for 37 private rooms for moms and their newborns. In addition, there is a beautifully renovated Women's Care Unit, where women recovering from various surgeries are cared for by professionals specially trained in women's health and recovery.
The hospital also opened a high-risk cancer clinic in 2017 within the OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Center for Breast Health, the first of its kind in Illinois. The clinic helps identify patients at higher than normal risk for various cancers. Director of Women’s Services, Cindy Martin, said, “Early detection is the key to surviving cancer. Patients are getting screened sooner and with very little effort or cost. OSF HealthCare is making early detection a reality for thousands in our community."
