Peoria Park District will Offer Two Open House Opportunities Prior to Auction Sale of Raccoon Lakes
Prior to the auction sale of Racoon Lakes, the Peoria Park District, along with Whitetail Properties, will host two open houses to allow members of the public to view the property. The first open house will take place on Wednesday, May 15th from 2pm to 5pm and the second will be Saturday, May 18th from 11am to 1pm.
Racoon Lakes is a 123.5 acre parcel that is located 4.2 miles outside of the Park District's boundaries. The property has not be available for public use since 1992 and is surrounded by residential neighborhoods on three sides. Historically, the neighbors in the area have voiced strong opposition to the public of the site and the associated traffic that would come with that use. Because of the limited potential benefits offered to the public by the parcel, its location well outside of the Park District's boundaries, and its history of inconsistent use, Racoon Lakes is a singularly unique parcel in the Park District's inventory.
Per Illinois Park Code, the Peoria Park District Board of Trustees passed, by four-fifths vote on July 11, 2018, a resolution authorizing the placement of a referendum question to the public on the ballot for the November 6, 2018 General Election. The referendum passed, allowing the Park District to move forward with an auction sale of the property.
The Racoon Lakes auction will take place on June 1, 2019 at 1:00pm. For video, photos, and additional auction information, please click here.
