  • The Peoria Civic Center anticipates a full facility this weekend

    The SMG-managed Peoria Civic Center is gearing up for one of the busiest weekends of the year, nearing full utilization of the multi-event facility in downtown Peoria.  From graduation caps to ice skates, ballet shoes to hunting bows, visitors from across the Midwest will be enjoying activities at the Peoria Civic Center.
    “The Peoria Civic Center is truly a unique facility, built to house an array of diverse events at once. This upcoming weekend is a perfect example of how the Peoria Civic Center is a place for everyone to come and have a good time,” said Anne Clayton, SMG General Manager of the Peoria Civic Center. “This weekend also highlights our strong ties to the community, partnering with the Peoria Ballet, Peoria Rivermen, OSF and the Peoria Youth Hockey Association.” 
    Peoria Rivermen vs The Huntsville Havoc, December 8- 9: Puck drops at 7:15 p.m. both nights inside Carver Arena.     OSF College of Nursing Commencement, December 9:  Over 100 nursing graduates, along with their families, will assemble in the Peoria Civic Center’s Ballroom on Saturday morning for OSF College of Nursing’s bi-annual commencement ceremony.
    PYHA Winter Classic, December 9:  Future hockey stars from across Illinois get a chance to play like the pros! The Peoria Youth Hockey Association, The Peoria Rivermen and PNC Winterfest are teaming up for a two part series featuring mite and squirt level hockey teams who will play on the ice at PNC Winterfest and inside Carver Arena. This is the first time organized hockey will take place on the PNC Winterfest ice, and for many of these players, it is their first time playing off of home ice.     The Peoria Ballet Presents The Nutcracker, December 9-10: The annual holiday classic featuring dazzling choreography, stunning sets and costumes, graceful dancers, and the timeless music of Tchaikovsky is performed live by the Heartland Festival Orchestra.     The Midwest Open Pro/Am Archery Tournament, December 9-10:  Filling the exhibit halls at the Peoria Civic Center, the Midwest Open Pro/Am Tournament makes its debut in Peoria, attracting novice to professional archers from across the USA. The weekend competition begins Saturday from 8 am - 7pm.  and concludes on Sunday 8am-3pm.  Pre-registration is required for competitors, but spectator admission is free.  Full details at www.midwestopenarchery.com.
    The Original Harlem Globetrotters, December 10:  The Globetrotters are continuing an epic 2017 season as they prepare to bring their awe-inspiring talents to Peoria’s Carver Arena.     PNC Winterfest, Open every day:  Enjoy the ice rink, ice slide and holiday cheer! PNC Winterfest features a REAL Ice Rink, approximately 68ft x 100ft, ready for you to skate under the stars for at least 90 minutes, weather permitting. Bring your own skates or rent them from the skate shack. The skate shack carries skates from size 9 in juniors through 13 adults. Spectators can watch the action from a heated tent with seating and refreshments. PNC Winterfest will also feature Peoria’s only ICE SLIDE that is 100 feet long! Slide down on a disc, fun for all ages!
