Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Update 6/28/12
Below is the government affairs update from Roberta Parks, President of the Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce, dated 6/13/12.
ACTION ALERT
A Senate and House Conference Committee have come to an equitable agreement for long-term transportation legislation that will save thousands of jobs in construction and related industries. This is expected to go to a vote today or tomorrow, so we need to you to contact your U.S. Representative or Senator and tell them to vote in support of the Highway and Transit Conference Report! To contact your legislators, click here.
The condition of the United States infrastructure has been on the decline for some time. The situation is only exacerbated by the fact that local and state governments have a difficult time planning for projects when the funding sputters along on short-term extensions. Stu Levenick, Group President of Caterpillar, Inc. recently wrote an article on the topic, which can be found here.

U.S. Supreme Court Ruling
Well, I’m sure that you all have probably heard the news by this point, but for those of you who haven’t the Supreme Court upheld the individual mandate and Medicaid expansion as Constitutional. We have a conference call with the U.S. Chamber tomorrow, so we will have more information on the whole thing for you on Monday.
