Government Affairs Wrap Up

The recently concluded session of the Illinois General Assembly was one of greater than usual interest – even for Illinois. It started on the heels of a recently enacted income tax increase. This led to expectations that Illinois would use the increased revenues and curtail spending to get its fiscal house in order. That hope quickly faded when the governor proposed a spending increase. Business was increasingly concerned that while other states were cutting budgets and improving their business climates, Illinois seemed mainly to just talk.
