Peoria City Council Votes to Approve the River Trail Apartment Proposal

We are please to announce City Council has voted in favor of the River Trail Apartment proposal on Tuesday September 22, 2015. This mean the development will be able to move forward to the next stages. This development was proposed to consist of 4 aparment buildings with a total of 143 units. The developer has also made the committment to enhance the park space for it's residents.

Please see below the letter to the editor from Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce President, Jeff Griffin, stating the Chamber's support for the development:

As President of The Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce, I am proud to report our Board of Directors has unanimously voted to support the River Trail Drive Apartment Development.  We explored this development in great detail, surveyed our membership and invited both sides of the issue to assert their opinions.  Very simply, this type of responsible development is consistent with the Chamber’s ongoing effort to support downtown expansion.

The CAT World Headquarters and Visitor Center, Peoria Riverfront Museum, Warehouse District, Dozer Park and all efforts to bring events to Downtown Peoria have been a Chamber of Commerce priority for many years.  It makes great sense that we would support the effort to attract more professionals living downtown.  We need increased foot traffic downtown and this project will help make that happen.

This project has all of the eye-catching opportunities any downtown in America would want.  We are attracting private investment of $18 million which translates into JOBS!  In fact, approximately 30% of the dollars invested translate directly into wages and benefits.  We are increasing recreational opportunities, populating our downtown and letting the World know we are open for business.  This project, while very significant, is just the beginning of a great decade long ride we are about to begin.

I ask you, to join us, to support our Mayor and City Council Members as they support this project.

    Jeff Griffin, President
