Water Franchise Agreement Update
The Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce supports and appreciates transparency regarding discussions about the City of Peoria’s franchise agreement with Illinois American Water Company. At a press conference earlier this week, the City of Peoria released the proposed franchise agreement. The agreement would suspend the 1889 franchise agreement and replace it with a revised 20-year agreement. Click here to view the agreement.
If the agreement is passed, we can expect the following:
- The average homeowner is expected to pay an additional $1.33 per month, or about $16 more a year.
- The average industrial user is expected to pay an additional $2.91 per month.
- Illinois American Water Company has committed to spending $8 million each year for infrastructure improvements; the rate adjusted for inflation.
The City Council is expected to vote on the agreement on Tuesday, March 25.
Two public meetings have been set to provide a forum for comments or concerns regarding the proposed franchise agreement.
